What time?!

Does planning a meeting across time zones make you sweat? Are you jealous of people who can effortlessly tell what time it is in other countries? Sometimes when I get on an international call and no one else is on I start to get paranoid about being an hour too early or late.

Fortunately there is an #EasyPeasy way to view 2 additional time zones from your desktop clock.

Here's how you do it:
1. Click on the time and date in the lower right corner of your desktop.
2. Click on "Change date and time settings."
3. Switch over to the Additional Clocks tab.
4. Tick one of the checkboxes labeled "Show this clock."
5. Select the time zone you'd like to track.
6. Give each clock a label under "Enter display name."
7. Last, click "Apply" then "OK" and you're done!

Now for the fun part. If you want to see the time zones simply:
A) HOVER over the time and a pop-up window will appear with all your time zones in digital format; or
B) CLICK on the time and your clocks will appear in a pop-up window.

Now rest easy Time Lords!

Why I Broke Up With Waze

In the beginning, as far as navigation apps go, Waze was a revelation. Simple interface, traffic and police alerts, and my favorite price - free! But what truly set it apart were its excellent, spoken, turn-by-turn directions. Not too early, not too late - you didn't even need to look at the screen.

And then, Google acquired them. To their credit, they didn't shutter it as a competitor (yet). And the app continued to work the same way for a while.

However, over the last few weeks a number of frustrating experiences have led me to stop using it altogether. First, the ads. There was the occasional ad in the beginning, mostly for Dunkin Donuts. Now there seem to be more and I don't like the way they cover a lot of the screen or demand you dismiss them. Connectivity seems to have gotten worse and the final blow, the routing seems to have gone haywire. A few times it even sent me on a circular detour so that after 20 minutes I ended up in the same location i started. This happened to my wife, as well.

It's disappointing because I was such a big fan at first. I told plenty people about it and even our Realtor was a convert.

Farewell Waze, I enjoyed our time together!

P.S. The jury is still out on my replacement, Apple Maps, but one bonus is now I can say, " Siri, take me home."

Where Ideas Go To Die

Ever have an amazing idea you can't pursue in that moment? If you are like me, more often than not you don't come back to it. You might even struggle to remember it at all. Ever wake up from a vivid dream you swear could make a great movie, only to have it fade away like so much smoke? Welcome to the cemetery of lost ideas.

There is an EZPZ way to capture your musings, potential screenplays and other ideas and it is right under your nose. The Voice Notes recording functionality on your phone is a simple way to memorialize ideas.

This has several advantages. It is hands-free and you can dictate while walking or driving. Not terribly safe, but safer than typing! Also, the mere process of speaking your ideas out loud makes it more likely that you will remember them. Finally, playing back your ideas and listening to them can be a helpful mirror by which you can evaluate, refine, and improve them.

So the next time you have the next big idea, a great joke or comeback, record it!
