What’s the secret that executives don’t want you to know?

 

Being smart, hard-working, and loyal are not enough for you to advance in this organization. Neither is providing value.

As long as I'm not convinced that you can lead well, you will be passed over for others I believe can.

When I say you need to work on your Executive Presence, this is what I really mean, but perhaps have not clearly articulated.

Nothing you do, even things I recommend, will matter unless it changes my opinion of your ability to lead well.

I don't know how or don’t have time to teach you how to generate more Executive Presence so I leave it to you to figure out.


 
 
 

The Code of Executive Presence

How come everyone has a different take on Executive Presence? How come even those who have it cannot really explain it?

Trainings aren't much better. They advocate mimicry of others by proposing you change what you say, do, or wear. However, this makeover approach ignores the source of Executive Presence. The trappings are just the wrappings.

Unfortunately, until you understand the underlying mechanism behind Executive Presence, you will not be able to generate it.
